How It Works
-
Place your order.
-
We’ll contact you with the shipping address for the fur.
-
Send your fur (your cost) – please avoid tightly packing it, as this can cause matting or felting.
-
We'll email you to confirm safe arrival.
-
We will weigh, sort, and inspect the fur.
-
If needed, we will blend it with wool for durability – perfectly colour-matched.
-
We’ll wash and air-dry the fur.
-
We hand-spin the yarn, and share updates on social media.
-
We then wash and set the yarn 2–3 more times (this takes approx. 3–4 days depending on weather).
-
We send photos of the finished product for your approval.
-
Once approved, we ship the yarn to you (shipping included in the price).
📌 Important: Please include a note with your name, address, and order number when sending the fur. This ensures we match the correct fur to your order and can contact you if needed.
🐾 Fur Types & Requirements
Double-Coated Fur
Most double-coated pets do not require blending with wool and can be spun as-is. Double-coated breeds have coats made up of two different layers. The first, outermost layer is a harsh topcoat that consists of long, coarse hairs. A topcoat may also be called guard hairs or primary hairs. Beneath the topcoat is the short, soft, and dense second layer, usually referred to as the undercoat. Which is woolly in texture and their soft, dense undercoat creates a strong and beautiful yarn.
✅ Suitable for:
-
DK or Aran/Worsted weight yarn (please specify on the note included in your package)
-
Yarn with or without added wool
🧵 If no preference is stated, we allow the yarn’s natural qualities to determine the best weight (yarn thickness).
Examples of double-coated breeds:
-
Dogs: Akita, Husky, Malamute, Chow Chow, Pomeranina, Pomski, Shiba Inu, Samoyed.
-
Cats: Maine Coon, Ragdoll, Persian, Scottish Fold
-
Others: Angora, Lionhead Rabbit
You can find a more extensive breed list at the bottom of this page.
Single-Coated Fur
Single-coated fur must be blended with wool for strength and spinability.
📏 Must be at least 2 inches in length
⚠️ The shorter the fur, the more spiky or coarse the yarn will feel.
🎯 Best spun as Aran/Worsted weight only – thinner yarns may fall apart.
💬 Choosing Yarn Weight
-
Double-coated fur: Choose DK or Aran/Worsted
-
Single-coated fur: Must be Aran/Worsted weight.
Please include a note inside your package with your name, address, order number and if you would like DK or Aran/Worsted weight yarn . This helps to avoid any mix ups with orders (this has never happened in all the years we have been doing this, we have a very strict process).
🧺 Unusable Fur & Preparation Tips
We do our best to use as much fur as possible, but:
🚫 Fur that is matted, tightly packed, or too short (under 2") may not be usable.
✅ Please gently sort through fur and remove any mats before sending.
💡 The better the condition, the better the final yarn!
If fur is unsuitable for spinning, we’ll return it to you and refund your order (excluding return shipping).
🧶 Blending with Wool
If you have less fur than needed, we can blend wool to reach your desired yarn weight:
Example:
-
You want 100g of yarn but only have 80g of fur.
-
Select 100g at checkout.
-
Send 80g of fur – we will add 20g of wool (included in the cost).
-
Add a note or message us to let us know.
📏 How Much Yarn Will I Receive?
-
Double-coated fur only:
-
Pay for 100g and Send 100g of usable fur = get 100g of yarn back
- 100g of fur yarn approximately produces 160-220 yards this depends on breed, fur density and spinning method. This figure is only to be used an an estimate- due to the hand processed nature of fur spinning.
-
-
Single-coated fur or blended:
-
Order 100g = receive 100g of yarn (includes any wool added)
- 100g of fur yarn approximately produces 140-200 yards this depends on breed, fur density and spinning method. This figure is only to be used an an estimate- due to the hand processed nature of fur spinning.
-
-
Fur must be usable – if some is too short/matted, yield may be lower.

Sent Olly’s fur off 20th October & got my two hearts and a big twist of yarn back last week.
I was sent photos of the hearts before they arrived.
I wasn’t quite sure what to expect but the yarn is clearly Olly’s fur. It’s coarser than I’d thought it would be but it’ll be hard wearing, so made to last.
I’m over the moon.
Thank you.
This was my 2nd batch of dog fur sent. Just as pleased as the 1st time. Would thoroughly recommend this company.
.
It means so much to me to have wool from my beloved cat's fur. I will knit something to treasure forever. The yarn is beautiful and soft and I am very happy with this service. Thank you.
Such a good company to deal with. Good communication every step of the way. Sent my dogs fur and it came back so beautifully spun into wool. Knitting a teddy with it as a permanent keepsake, Thank you to everyone involved.
