 Here are the details-

Some types of pet fur will need to be mixed with wool in  order to make a strong enough yarn to use, we will perfectly colour match any wool added to your pets fur.

Most double coated animal fur will NOT need to be mixed and can be spun without the need to mix with sheeps wool. Double-coated breeds have coats made up of two different layers. The first, outermost layer is a harsh topcoat that consists of long, coarse hairs. A topcoat may also be called guard hairs or primary hairs. Beneath the topcoat is the short, soft, and dense second layer, usually referred to as the undercoat. Which is woolly in texture and makes a beautiful yarn.

Some double coated breed are;

Huskies, Pomeranian, shitzu, Alaskan malamute, Samoyed, chow chow, newfoundland, old english sheepdog, Akita. Angora, lion head, Persian, Maine coon, Scottish fold, rag doll.

All single coated animal fur WILL need to be mixed with wool to make a useable yarn. Single coated animal fur needs to be at least 2 inches in length. Slightly shorter fur can be spun but this may affect the structural integrity of the yarn and the yarn may damage easily. We MAY be able to work with slightly shorter (1.5inches) depending on breed but this is not recommended. Single coated fur yarn does feel more corse and is a little spikey.

Additional info/ FAQ's

What happens after i place an order ?

You place the order and we contact you with the address you need to send the fur to.
You send us the fur (your cost) - please avoid tightly packing the fur into a small bag as this can cause felting of the fur.

Once we get the fur we will send you an email letting you know it has arrived safely.

We then weigh out the fur and sort through to make sure it is suitable for spinning.

We then carefully wash the fur and lay out to dry.

We will then mix the fur with any wool if needed.

We process and spin - (we often post progress photos and videos on our Facebook page)

We then wash the new fur yarn a further 2-3 times, set the yarn and leave it to dry. (This often takes 3/4 days depending on the weather)

We will then hand knit or crochet the fur yarn into your chosen item.

Once finished we will send you photos of the finished product to make sure you are happy.

Then we send you the finished yarn for you to enjoy.(Included in the price)

Please include a note with your name and order number . This helps to avoid any mix ups with orders (this has never happened in all the years we have been doing this, we have a very strict process) it also helps us get in contact if the fur is unsuitable for spinning. If the fur is unsuitable for spinning we will return to you and refund (minus any return shipping costs).

Unusable fur

We will do everything we can to use as much of the fur as possible. But unfortunately some fur may not be useable,

It may be matted or too short (we recommend that single coated fur be at least 2 inches in length although we can work with slightly shorter depending on breed). (The shorter the fur the fuzzier the yarn will turn out).

It's better to check that no pieces are matted together before sending, this will help to limit any unusable fur.

I only have a small amount of fur

If you want a keepsake but dont have the recommend amount of fur we can suppliment with sheeps wool. for example if you only have 30g of fur we can add 20g of sheep's wool to make the 50g needed. or if you only have 25g we can add 25g of wool.

My fur is too short is there another option ?

All single coated pet fur needs to be at least 2 inches in length otherwise it will start to fall apart.
If the fur is shorter than the 2 inch needed we can - by request knit a keepsake heart with hand spun sheeps wool and then stuff it full of your fur, so you still have a keepsake- this service would be the same cost as the size chosen.

Aftercare-

We recommend hand wash only. It would be better to wipe down with warm water than submersion to avoid any damage.
We do wash the fur multiple times (at least 3) before knitting, however we are happy to not wash the fur so you can keep the fur babies smell if you would prefer. just send us a message or add a note to your order.

How long will it take ?

The process usually takes around 4 weeks for the 20cm size. 6-8 weeks for the 30-35cm.
If its an urgent order please contact us to make sure we can accommodate.

Absolutely thrilled with the heart. We were devastated to lose our 2 Springers but having this gives us back a little bit of them. We even have some spare wool. Such a lively and unusual keepsake.
