💬 Blog Update: The Lazy girl hooded big sleeve bomber jacket has a new name - The Whatever Jacket — Pattern Now New & Improved!
You might remember that the original draft of This Jacket pattern was available for free while we tested it out. First of all, thank you to everyone who downloaded it, tried it out, and embraced the chaos.
Well… it’s grown up a little.
We’ve gone back, fixed the errors, added way more details, and turned it into a much more complete pattern — without losing the chill, low-effort vibe that made it great in the first place.
The new version includes:
-
Multiple style options
-
Different hood techniques
-
Clearer instructions for foggy brains
-
And the same instant knit-ification energy you loved
We made these improvements especially for our fellow spoonies, the easily distracted, the overworked, the under-rested, and anyone whose brain just isn't always online. This is still one of our easiest patterns ever — just better, clearer, and now with fewer “uhh what?” moments.
A huge thank you to everyone who tested the draft pattern — your feedback helped shape the final version, and we're so grateful.
If you loved the original, or if you’ve been waiting for a more polished version, you can now grab the full pattern

🧶 The Whatever Jacket: Free Version Ending Soon – Here's Why
For everyone who downloaded the free draft version of The Whatever Jacket, thank you! It’s been amazing seeing so many of you cast on, modify, improvise, and just generally vibe your way through it. We originally released the pattern in draft form to test it out in the wild — and wow, you really delivered.
That said… it's time for an upgrade.
We’ve spent time fixing the little errors, smoothing out the weird bits, and adding more options — and just generally making the pattern sooo much better. .
That’s why we’ve released the new & improved version as a full paid pattern — and yes, it's still easy, still cozy, still 100% “knit this while zoned out” energy. But now it’s clearer, more flexible, and polished enough that even a focused knitter might be impressed.
🕐 Still working on the free one?
We get it — maybe you started it, got distracted, forgot where you left off (relatable), or just haven’t finished yet. So we're keeping the free draft version available for the next month to give everyone time to wrap up.
BUT… let’s be honest:
You might as well frog it now and start fresh.
Why? Because the new version is genuinely better. And it’s available via instant download — straight to your inbox, no fuss, no waiting. Just click, cast on, and coast.
💌 A quick thank you
Huge love and thanks to everyone who tested the original pattern — your notes, suggestions, and “uhhh what is this part?” messages helped shape the final version into something we’re really proud of.
This project started as a cozy jacket for foggy brains, and thanks to you, it’s become a solid, snuggly, easy-win project for anyone — medicated, overwhelmed, or just short on mental bandwidth.
We hope you love the finished pattern as much as we do.

Lazy girl hooded big sleeve bomber jacket
This is one of the easiest most customisable patterns ever and is made using whatever super chunky yarn you have.
The idea is that this pattern looks great with multiple different coloured yarns knotted together helping you de-stash from all of the half used balls of yarn we know you have.
Or its a great excuse to buy some new super chunky yarn .Our super chunk yarn is great for this pattern (just saying ;) ).
Chunky and Super Chunky Yarn – Farm to Fibre
This pattern is for beginners so only basic knowledge is needed.
CO- Cast on
K- Knit
P- Purl
K2tog- Knit 2 together
st- Stitches
Bind off/Cast off
That's it- we told you it was easy .
Because its super chunky yarn and you can use different brands all mixed together we though it be easier if the pattern is measured in weight this time and not per ball.

Stitch marker.
If you are choosing to use scraps we find that a change in colour every 2-4 rows looks great and make sure you staggers the colour changes to make it look super random. Just cut off your yarn and tie a knot with the new colour. Make sure you leave enough to weave in the ends when you are finished.

(But this is a pattern, so we will give you suggestions .)

Assembly:
Sew up the
Using which ever technique you want - mattress stitch, whip stitch,
Lay out flat and place the piece where they need to go , we will be sewing with the right sides facing.
First stitch together the top of the back panel and top of front panels to make the shoulder seam. making sure to leave a gap for the neck.
Then stitch the underarms- joining the front panel to the back panel, stitching from the bottom of the jacket to the armpit area, add in the sleeve and attach the sleeve, repeat for the other side.
Hood :
There are 2 different methods depending on your experience level and how confident you are picking up stitches.
Pick up stitches method
With the right side facing , from the neck area (front left panel) and around the back of the neck line.
Size small - Pick up 6 sts from the left side of the neck, 13 sts from the back of the neck, 6 sts from the other side of the neck.
Total sts on needle :25
Medium & Large - Pick up 7 sts from the left side of the neck, 14 sts from the back of the neck and 7 sts from the other side of the neck.
Total sts on needle: 28
Row 1: Knit
Keep knitting each row until the hood measures 28 (32,32) cm and then cast off.
Now fold the hood at the top so it meets and stitch together - Make sure you leave the front open for your head .
Non-pick up method
CO 28 sts
Knit until it measures 28 (32,32) cm and then cast off.
You should have a rectangle.
Fold in half so the two shorter sides are together.
(Red is the fold)

Then sew 2 sides together , down 1 side (shown in green) - from the folded bit to the end (do not go around any corners it is just this one side that needs sewing)

With the newly sewn part at the top (green) and the folded part towards the back (red) sew the open bottom part of the hood to the collar area of the jacket.
It helps to fold the jacket in half to find the centre and place a stitch marker or pin . This will help the hood to be level and not wonky.
Ribbing to finish :

With the front of the Jacket facing you , we are going to pick up stitches starting at the bottom of the jacket on the left front panel, around th hood and back down the right panel as follows:
Left panel Pick up 44 (45,46) sts
Front of hood pick up 26 (28,28) sts
Right panel pick up 44 (45,46) sts
Rows 1-4: K1, P1 to end
Cast off
Weave in all ends and block.
Enjoy your snuggly big lazy girls bomber jacket.
