Free short sleeve jumper knitting pattern

 This Pattern will be free for a limited amount of time. 

As it is one of our first ever pattern we are looking for a lucky few people to test, locate any mistakes we have made and let us know, so that we can update the pattern before we publish. We are also looking for creative names for the pattern and customer photos that we can share (with your permission).

Gauge:
14.5 sts x 22 rnds = 4” / 10 cm in Stockinette Stitch (St st) in the round.

Yarn:
Any aran/worsted weight yarn that meats the required gauge.

Needles & Other Supplies:

  • For main body and sleeves; 6 mm circular needles, or size needed to obtain gauge.

  • For Ribbing:  5.5 mm or 1 needle size smaller than what was used to obtain gauge.

  • Stitch markers with one marker a different colour or style.

  • Scrap yarn to hold stitches.

  • needle for finishing.

Stitch Patterns:
Stockinette Stitch (St st):
When In the round: knit all rounds.

  • Knitted from top down in one piece with raglan style.


Instructions

Section 1:

  • With 6 mm circular needle  (CO) 34 (34, 34, 38, 38) (38, 42, 42) sts. Do not join , this section is worked flat in St st.

  • Row 1 - (WS): p1 , pm (place marker), p4 (4, 4, 5, 5) (5, 6, 6) , pm, p24 (24, 24, 26, 26) (26, 28, 28) sts , pm, p4 (4, 4, 5, 5) (5, 6, 6) , pm, p1.

  • Row 2 (RS): kfb in first st, sm (Slip marker), kfb, *k to 1 st before marker, kfb, sm, kfb; repeat from * 2 more times .

  • Row 3 (WS): p to end, slipping markers as you reach them.

  • Row 4 (RS): k1, kfb, sm, kfb, *k to 1 st before marker, kfb, sm, kfb; repeat from * 2 more times, then k last st 

  • Row 5 (WS): p to end, slipping markers as you reach them.

Total Stitches:
 3 - which will be the half of the front 
 8 (8, 8, 9, 9) (9, 10, 10) sts which will be the sleeve
28 (28, 28, 30, 30) (30, 32, 32) which will be the back

 8 (8, 8, 9, 9) (9, 10, 10) sts- other sleeve.

3- Part of the Front

Section 2 (raglan):

  • Row 1 - (RS): kfb in first st, k1, kfb, sm, kfb, *k to 1 st before marker, kfb, sm, kfb; repeat (knitting up to 1 st before marker kfb, sm, kfb, then 2 st before end kfb and k last st )

  • Row 2 (WS): p to end, slipping markers as you reach them.

  • Row 3 - (RS): kfb, *k to 1 st before marker, kfb, sm, kfb; repeat from *   then 2 sts before end, kfb, k1 .

  • Row 4 (WS): p to end, slipping markers as you reach them.

  • Row 5 (RS): kfb, *k to 1 st before marker, kfb, sm, kfb; repeat from *   then 2 sts before end, kfb, k1 .
  • Row 6 (WS): p to end, slipping markers as you reach them.
  • Row 7 (RS): kfb, *k to 1 st before marker, kfb, sm, kfb; repeat from *   then 2 sts before end, kfb, k1 .
  • Row 8 (WS): p to end, slipping markers as you reach them.

Total Stitches:
Each Front: 11
Each Sleeve: 16 (16, 16, 17, 17) (17, 18, 18)
Back: 36 (36, 36, 38, 38) (38, 40, 40,)

Section 3: This row will join the fronts together, to work in the round.

  • Row 1:  CO 14 (14, 14, 16, 16) (16, 18, 18) sts for the Front.

  • Break yarn, leaving a long tail for weaving in later.

  • Slip 41 (41, 41, 44, 44) (44, 47, 47) sts on LN  from LN to right needle (RN) slipping markers as you go, then remove next marker and replace with a different colour or unique marker which will be BOR marker , place on RN.

  • Starting at new BOR marker , re-join yarn and kfb, *k to 1 st before marker, kfb, sm, kfb; repeat from * 1 more time, then k to end of Right Front.

  • Ensuring sts aren’t twisted, join and k to BOR, slipping markers as you reach them. Now working in the round.

  • Next round K to 1 st before next marker, kfb, sm, kfb, k to 1 st before BOR, kfb. 

  • Next Round: k to BOR, slipping markers as you reach them.

Total Stitches:
Front/Back: 38 (38, 38, 40, 40) (40, 42, 42)
Each Sleeve: 18 (18, 18, 19, 19) (19, 20, 20)

Section 4:

  • Round 1: kfb, k to 1 st before marker, kfb, sm,    kfb, k to 1 st before marker, kfb, sm,   kfb, k to 1 st before marker, kfb, sm,   kfb, k to 1 st before marker, kfb, sm

  • Round 2: k to end, slipping markers as you reach them.

  • Repeat rounds 1-2:  7 (8, 9, 6, 7) (6, 7, 8) more times.

Total Stitches:
Front/Back: 54 (56, 58, 54, 56) (54, 58, 60)
Each Sleeve: 34 (36, 38, 33, 35) (33, 36, 38)

For Size XS go straight to section 6

 

Section 5:

For Size XS skip this section

  • Round 1: kfb, k to 1 st before marker, kfb, sm
  • Round 2: kfb, k to 1 st before marker, kfb, sm
  • Round 3: kfb, k to 1 st before marker, kfb, sm
  • Round 4: kfb, k to 1 st before marker, kfb, sm
  • Round 5: k to end, slipping markers as you reach them.
  • Round 6: kfb, k to 1 st before marker kfb, sm, k to next marker, sm, kfb, kto 1st before marker kfb,sm k to next marker, sm
  • Round 7 k to end, slipping markers as you go
  • Repeat rounds 3-7X (0, 0, 2, 3) (4, 4, 4) more times.

Total Stitches:
Front/Back: 54 (60, 62, 66, 71) (74, 78, 80)
Each Sleeve: 34 (38, 40, 39, 33) (43, 46, 48)

 

Section 6: Sizes XS-L only

  • Round 1: kfb, k to 1 st before marker, kfb, sm, kfb, k to 1 st before marker, kfb, sm,kfb, k to 1 st before marker, kfb, sm,kfb, k to 1 st before marker, kfb, sm.
  • Round 2: k to end, slipping markers as you go.
  •  Round 3: k to end, slipping markers as you go
  •  Round 4: k to end, slipping markers as you go.
  • For size XS only repeat rounds 1-4 

    Dividing for underarm:

    • k to marker, remove marker, transfer next 38 (40, 42, 41, 43) (43, 46, 48) sleeve sts onto holder/scrap yarn, then remove next marker.
    • Turn work over and  CO 1 (2, 3, 4, 5) (7, 8, 9) sts, pm, CO 1 (2, 3, 4, 5) (7, 8, 9, 11, 13) sts, turn 
      work back over, then k1 (joining together again).
    • k across to marker, remove marker, transfer next 38 (40, 42, 41, 43) (43, 46, 48)  sleeve sts onto holder/scrap yarn, then remove BOR marker.
    • Turn work over and CO 1 (2, 3, 4, 5) (7, 8, 9) sts, place BOR marker CO 1 (2, 3, 4, 5) (7, 8, 9, 11, 13) sts, turn work back over, then k1 (joining back together). 

    Total stitches:

    Front/Back: 60 (66,70,76,82) (88,94,98)

     

    Section 7 :

    • Work in St st for 10 rounds 
    • Round 1: K1, ssk, k to 3 sts before marker, k2tog, k1, sm, K1, ssk, k to 3 sts before marker, k2tog, k1,sm
    • Round 2-6 : work in St st (5 rounds)
    • Round 7: K1, ssk, k to 3 sts before marker, k2tog, k1, sm, K1, ssk, k to 3 sts before marker, k2tog, k1,sm
    • Work in St st for 10 rounds
    • K1, ssk, k to 3 sts before marker, k2tog, k1, sm, K1, ssk, k to 3 sts before marker, k2tog, k1,sm

    Total Stitches:

    Front/back: 54 (60,64,70,78)(82,90,92)

    • Work 12 rounds St st
    • Round 2: K1, m1-L, k to 1 st before marker, m1-R, K1, sm, k1, m1-L, k to 1 st before marker, m1-R, k1, sm
    • Round 3-18: work St st  (10 Rounds)
    • Round 19: K1, m1-L, k to 1 st before marker, m1-R, K1, sm, k1, m1-L, k to 1 st before marker, m1-R, k1, sm
    • Round 20-26 : Work St st (6 Rounds)
    • Round 27: K1, m1-L, k to 1 st before marker, m1-R, K1, sm, k1, m1-L, k to 1 st before marker, m1-R, k1, sm
    • Round 28-34 : Work St st (6 Rounds)
    • Round 35: K1, m1-L, k to 1 st before marker, m1-R, K1, sm, k1, m1-L, k to 1 st before marker, m1-R, k1, sm

    Total Stitches:

    Front/back: 62 (68,72,78,84) (90,96,100)

    • Work in St st until body measures 3cm less than desired length, removing markers as you go.
    • Switch to 1 size smaller needles for Rib. 
    • Round 1: K2, P2 Rib, repeat to end
    • Repeat until Rib measures approximately 3cm
    • BO in Rib 

     

    Sleeves (repeat for each side)

    • Transfer the stitches from the scrap yarn/stitch marker 38 (40, 42, 41, 43) (43, 46, 48) 
    • Join yarn towards the back of the underarm and pick up and k 2 (4, 6, 8, 10) (14, 16, 18) place marker Then k across 38 (40, 42, 41, 43) (43, 46, 48) sts on needles.
    •  Work in St st in the round for 8 rounds, or until measures approximately 4 cm from underarm.
    •  k1, ssk, k to 3 sts before marker, k2tog, k1 
    •  Work in St st in the rnd for 8 rounds.
    • For sizes L, XL, 2X : k to 3 sts before marker, k2tog, k1
    • For Sizes 3X, 4X : k1, ssk, k to 3 sts before marker, k2tog, k1.
    • Knit 1 more round
    • Switch to smaller needles for Rib 
    • Round 1: *k2, p2; rep from * to end.
    • Repeat Round 1: until ribbing measures approximately 3 cm.
    • BO in Rib.

     

     

    Neck Rib

    Using Rib needles (smaller size) join yarn at the right hand side of the back.

    •  Pick up and k 22 (22, 22, 22, 26) (26, 28, 28) from the back of the neck
    • Pick up and k 4 (4, 4, 4, 4) (4, 6, 6) top of Left shoulder.
    • Pick up and k 11 sts going down Left Front  
    • Pick up and k 14 (14, 14, 16, 16) (16, 18, 18) centre front.
    • Pick up and k 11 sts going up Right Front 
    • Pick up and k 4 (4, 4, 4, 4) (4, 6, 6) top of Right shoulder.
    • Pm join for working in the rnd.

    Total sts on needles:

     66 (66, 66, 70, 70) (70, 78, 78).
     

    • Rib pattern for neck - k2, p2; repeat unit ribbing measure 3cm.
    • BO in pattern.

     

    Weave in all ends and block.
